A survivor of a disturbing child sexual abuse ring at the hands of foster parents in Prince Edward County now puts her pain in her music as an adult.

Mandolynne Knott released her single Scream under his YouTube channel, Mandolynne.

The song features lyrics about the sexual assault, child grooming and abuse she faced at the hands of the foster care system in a small town in Prince Edward County when she was 15.

Knott, who has been writing songs since she was able to pick up a pen, found motivation to go to music school at the age of 24, then began her journey as a solo artist in 2019. .

“To be honest, I never really planned on releasing it. It was one of those songs that I worked on myself to overcome difficult feelings to navigate this.”

Just over a year ago, Knott said she realized that the song’s release would be important both for awareness raising and to serve as “a performance for other survivors of sexual abuse. on children “.

“The man said to drop your pants and open your mouth…. The mind is a terrible place, but I cannot leave ”, she sings on a disturbing instrumental.

Knott says his music helps him find his identity, but his journey to becoming an artist has not been easy. This comes after many years of therapy and internal struggles.

“I wanted to raise awareness about this epidemic that’s happening within the child welfare system,” Knott said.

“The public is unfortunately not aware. And I think in creating this video I just wanted to express what it feels like to be silenced, mistreated and cared for. So that your experience is minimized and ignored. I wanted other people who have been through these things to know that they are not alone.

“When I came forward as a survivor, I felt it was an isolated incident. I felt my house was the only house this was happening in, only to find it was happening everywhere, ”Knott said.

In 2011, Knott’s foster parents, Janet and Joe Holm, were sentenced to a total of seven years in prison after being convicted of charges arising from the sexual abuse of five children they fostered in their home. foyer.

Then, in April 2021, former Prince Edward County Children’s Aid Society executive director Bill Sweet pleaded guilty to one count of not caring for a child in name of the now defunct children’s aid society.

The remaining 20 criminal charges against him were withdrawn and Sweet was not sentenced to jail, but was sentenced to community service.

“I sat in the courtroom and listened to the survivors talk about their experiences within the foster care system,” Knott said of Sweet’s conviction. “I have heard the list of reports and these are from community members, from young people themselves, even from my own experience. Workers came to my house, we discussed.

“Receiving community service for an organization of your choice is just absolutely shameful. I don’t know how he sleeps at night.

Knott hopes that by sharing life’s most painful experiences, she can help spare others the same fate – or at least let them join her on her healing journey.

  • Sector dominated by technological platforms, music majors

LONDON, Oct. 19 (Reuters) – The UK competition regulator is planning to launch an investigation into music streaming to see if an industry dominated by platforms such as Spotify (SPOT.N) and Apple (AAPL.O) is working for consumers.

The watchdog announcement on Tuesday follows a report by a UK parliamentary committee this year that warned that links between music majors and streaming platforms could stifle innovation in the industry.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority has taken an increasingly proactive role in regulating digital markets, with investigations already launched into the power of Google, Facebook and Apple in different parts of the ecosystem.

He said he would now turn to music streaming which in Britain accounts for 80% of music consumption and is dominated by Spotify, Apple Music (AAPL.O), Amazon (AMZN.O) and Alphabet. Inc. owned by YouTube (GOOGL.O).

“The UK has a love affair with music and is home to many of the world’s most popular artists,” said Andrea Coscelli, Managing Director of CMA. “We want to do everything we can to make this industry competitive, prosperous and work for the benefit of music lovers.”

After being hammered by piracy in the late 1990s, the music industry turned to a streaming model supported either by advertising or by subscriptions to ensure more sustainable revenues for the industry.

Official figures show that the global recorded music market grew 7.4% in 2020 to $ 21.6 billion, with increased demand for paid streaming services leading the way.

A UK industry report showed that there were a total of 139 billion audio streams in 2020. Despite the growth, artists have long complained about not getting a fair share from streaming platforms.

The UK parliamentary report also noted that the big three music companies, Universal (UMG.AS), Sony (6758.T) and Warner (WMG.O), also covered up to 75% of the UK recording market. and maintained close ties with streaming platforms, prompting them to question the sector’s competition.

Market research is used to examine an industry and decide if intervention is necessary. Results may include asking the government to change regulations, encouraging companies to self-regulate, taking action against companies, and conducting a full and thorough investigation.

Stray Kids is flying high with their latest album ‘NOEASY’ and title track, ‘Thunderous’, and it doesn’t look like they’re coming anytime soon. Even though the album was released months ago, they continue to dominate the K-pop scene. The boy group finally gets the recognition they deserve by winning the ferocious survival show “Kingdom” and making a million sales of their album. They have also been mapped nationally and globally on charts like iTunes and Billboard. And now they’re making YouTube records.

Stays (Stray Kids fandom) has been pretty well fed on this comeback with almost every track on ‘NOEASY’ getting a music video. We also received video clips for the ‘SKZ-Player’ project. Additionally, members are also busy with solo gigs with solo photo shoots for Felix Landing magazine, Hyunjin being selected as Studio Choom’s “Artist of the Month” and Seungmin getting his first solo song – the OST for the popular K-drama “Hometown Cha Cha Cha ‘. Besides all this, Stray Kids also made a Japanese comeback with the single’ Scars’.

That same day, as Stays celebrated the feat of “Thunderous,” another music video recorded a record. IN’s ‘Maknae On Top’ starring Bang Chan and Changbin has been reported to have passed 20 million views. It should be noted that this is the first video clip of the “SKZ-Player” project to cross this milestone. This achievement is very special for fans since it is the clip of the youngest member.

Hyunjin’s ‘AOTM’ Has Highest Debut With 2.9 Million Views

We also have Hyunjin’s already iconic “AOTM” performance making waves a day after its release. The Stray Kids member was shortlisted as “Artist of the Month” by Studio Choom for October and released a performance video of Post Malone’s “Motley Crew” on October 16th. Well, it became the most watched performance video in the “AOTM” series in the first 24 hours when it crossed 2.9 million views. And on October 18, it crossed 3.8 million views on YouTube.

‘So proud’

Enthusiastic fans used phrases like “AOTM”, # MaknaeOnTop_20MViews # SKZ5TH100MVIEWS to enhance the achievements. Stays were touched by Hyunjin’s reaction, “I still cry over Hyunjin’s reaction when he finds out his AOTM has passed 2 million views, he was quick to thank Stays for that.” Another fan posted: “Honestly miss the era where everyone makes maknae on the best edits with the maknae in their band. the real maknae at the top! 20 Million! ”One of them tweeted,“ Happy 100 Thousands in Thunder! A new ‘Surrey Music Strategy’ aims to create a thriving local music economy in the city and to support the development of artists.

The launch involves a “Music in Surrey” webpage (surrey.ca/music) where musicians, music-related businesses and non-profits can register for two new repertoires from Surrey Music, which will launch in early 2022. Musicians who register for the repertoire can participate and run the chance to win a $ 250 Long & McQuade gift card.

The Surrey musicians directory is separated from a Surrey Music Business Directory.

Surrey is home to a diverse number of musicians and music businesses, the website notes, including booking agencies, instrument shops, live music production support, publicists, music schools, music producers, ‘events and recording studios.

“Surrey is Canada’s booming city of music,” the website proclaims.

“As one of the region’s fastest growing metropolitan centers, Surrey has a diverse community of musicians, music companies, industry workers and fans. A Surrey Music Strategy is being created to provide recommendations on how best to further develop a thriving music economy in all of Surrey city centers.

Project funding of up to $ 60,000 will come from Music BC, with support from Creative BC and the provincial government.

Three years ago, in 2018, the Surrey Board of Trade established a downtown Surrey Music office to help raise the profile of live music in the city, in partnership with Sami Ghawi’s FUSION presents business.

On Tuesday, October 12, the 2021 Surrey Arts & Business Awards online broadcast featured a video of local musician Richard Tichelman singing a cover of “We Built This City,” the 1980s Starship hit song. The video is posted on Tichelman’s YouTube channel.

“Surrey BC – A city of music! Tichelman raves in his description of the video, filmed at sites around Surrey.

“This cover video was created for the Surrey Board of Trade (SBOT), for the Surrey Arts and Business Awards 2021. I was honored to win this award in 2019 for my music business and I am honored once to plus being invited to represent Surrey in creating this cover.

Surrey Music Strategy is “a good initiative,” according to Anita Huberman, President and CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade.

“As we have seen the movement of music artists and related businesses from Vancouver to Surrey and the South Fraser Economic Region due to gentrification, and as Surrey will become the largest city in British Columbia, Surrey Board of Trade has asked the City of Surrey to develop its own music strategy since 2018, ”Huberman noted in a press release.

“We asked the then-appointed City of Surrey Cultural Advisory Committee if the Surrey Chamber of Commerce Music Center could lead the creation of a Music City Strategy, but no response – and over the course of the summer of 2021, we heard that the City of Surrey will lead the research themselves. Nonetheless, we are delighted with this and hope that the Surrey Chamber of Commerce Music Center and our portfolio of ideas, work and actions will be taken into account.

For the Surrey Music Strategy, City Hall will work with a consultant to implement ‘three phases of growth’, starting with research and discovery, followed by community engagement, then strategy development and recommendations.

“As part of community engagement, and to ensure the creation of a sustainable and resilient music economy, the City will seek input from local music industry experts and key stakeholders, including musicians and homeowners. ‘businesses,’ said a press release from the town hall on Thursday. (Oct 14).

Surrey is “a significant contributor” to the “wealth of talent and creative musical infrastructure in British Columbia,” according to Bob D’Eith, Parliamentary Secretary for Film and Music.

“Surrey’s music strategy strengthens the local music community and creates the opportunity to share such diverse talents with all British Columbians,” said D’Eith, MPP for Maple Ridge-Mission and musician whose bands have included Rymes with Orange and Mythos, dating back to the early 1990s.

Mayor Doug McCallum said the Surrey Music Strategy is being developed “to create new opportunities and resources that support our artists and local venues.” The talented musicians and performers we have in Surrey should have every chance to shine, and that is what we aim to achieve with the Surrey music strategy.

Last month, YouTube Music’s smartwatch app was only available on Galaxy Watch 4 exclusively, which was pretty limited given that only a few people own the latest Samsung smartwatch. YouTube pays royalties for the video and music content available on its website and here’s how.

Yes, YouTube pays royalties to artists and labels for the music content available on their platform. Some creators monetize their content directly through the YouTube Partner Program. Many creators will use a third party like RouteNote to stream their music to YouTube and generate revenue for every play.

There are a number of ways we can make money for you at RouteNote from your music on the YouTube platform and each of them is available for free to all artists and labels. If you want more information on how YouTube collects royalties and how artists and creators can make money from their content, click here.

Upload to YouTube Music

We have a direct partnership with the music streaming service YouTube Music. Upload your music to YouTube Music for free with RouteNote and your releases will be available to stream to listeners around the world, earning money with every listen.

YouTube’s music streaming service gives listeners unlimited listening to all the music in the world with exclusive content like live versions and demos that you can’t get on other services like Spotify and Apple Music. Streaming Your Music to YouTube Music gives you access to the world’s largest audience with the world’s leading video website.

YouTube Content ID

YouTube’s Content ID system allows them to analyze all content uploaded to YouTube and recognize when someone’s music is used in a video. This allows them to monetize videos on behalf of artists when their tracks are used in videos, giving creators the freedom to soundtrack their videos and ensuring that music rights holders receive their legitimate revenues.

We are working with YouTube to add our artists’ music to the Content ID library, which allows us to pay artists each time their music is used on YouTube.

Monetization of YouTube videos

RouteNote’s YouTube network accepts channels from creators in a community of creators with over 200 million monthly views. We help artists monetize the videos on their channel so they can earn money from their video views.

By the time he started elementary school, Thompson had spent more time on the road with adults than in Philadelphia with children his age. When his freshman class had to bring music to school, he chose “Why Fools Fall In Love,” by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, not realizing that it wasn’t a contemporary choice. By his own account, he was an unusual child, not wild or temperamental but easily obsessed. When he was a baby, to calm him down, his parents put him in front of something he liked – a spinning record or an episode of “Soul Train” – and he was sedated for hours, almost in a trance. His father was half joking that the family worried if he was okay. (“I don’t think ‘autistic’ was a common term at the time, but I found out later that they took me to a doctor to see if something was really wrong,” he in his memoir, “Mo ‘Meta Blues.”) That, combined with the violence in his neighborhood – the rise of crack cocaine, the state-sanctioned MOVE bombing – and the abrupt turn of its parents towards Christianity in the early 1980s, contributed to a protected childhood.

Fortunately, the music was enough distraction for the lock on the front gate. As a teenager, Thompson revered the reviews section of Rolling Stone, went to the library every Saturday to request microfilm reels of back issues, and lined his room with cutouts from major reviews. (Even now, to figure out his own records, he’ll fake Rolling Stone reviews – signature, cover image, full story – before they’re released.) His parents praised his interest in music but hoped that he would find a more traditional style, stable employment within it. They wanted, he wrote, to lift a ‘future’ Jeopardy! ‘ candidate instead of a future “Jeopardy!” ” index.”

Yet when he entered Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, they let him drop out of the Christian school he attended. CAPA, as it is called, was a concentrate of ingenuity and real success. Thompson played drums in a music video for a few guys in his class – Boyz II Men. He chatted with bassist Christian McBride. He took singer Amel Larrieux to the prom. But the real prize was meeting Tariq Trotter, the rebellious art kid who got caught having sex with girls in the bathroom, who was sort of intrigued by Thompson and his geeky, hippie covered jeans. of acrylic paint. Trotter would ask Thompson to accompany his freestyles to the cafeteria, with Thompson hitting beats on the lunch table, ultimately playing in front of whoever wanted to listen to him.

The Roots’ career, while successful both commercially and critically, has been marked by a series of near misses. In their early days, they hoped to follow in the footsteps of bands like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, carving out a solid place in the alternative hip-hop arena. But by the time they started looking for recording deals in 1993, the tides had changed: Dr. Dre had broken records with “The Chronic,” and all labels seemed to want gangsta-rap artists who could sell. a large number of disks. After a brief stint in London to attract audiences, they signed with Geffen, released two albums and eventually landed a hit single, “You Got Me”, with Erykah Badu, from their 1999 album, “Things Fall Apart. “.

At this point, they were hosting jam sessions at Thompson’s home in Philadelphia, bringing together like-minded musicians in a creative community that stood out from the gritty coastal rap that filled the airwaves. They called this community “the movement”, and their experience worked almost too well: Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Bilal, Eve, India. Arie, Jazmine Sullivan and Common were all regulars. Thompson also began working with D’Angelo, whom he called one of the crownings of his life. “When I think back to that time, the most amazing thing is how many of these artists did it,” he wrote in his memoir. “There were at least 18 recording contracts in the hall, and at least nine of the people who became recording artists ended up being bigger than us.”

Thompson began producing popular records, becoming one of the architects of a hugely influential soul music strain. He was the backbone of a collective of neo-soul bohemian and alternative hip-hop artists called the Soulquarians, named after the astrological sign shared by many members, which included Badu, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def and Q -Tip. But eventually the collective slackened: people quit the game, or started shooting movies, or made music with the city’s new blockbuster, Kanye West.
