Crystal McCombs News and Recording
Too many of you cry
Brother, brother, brother
There are far too many of you dying
You know we have to find a way
To bring some love here today,
We don’t need to climb
See, war is not the answer
Because only love can conquer hate
You know we have to find a way
To bring some love here today.
– From the 1971 song “What’s Going On” by the late Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye was a prophetic musical genius. And his most memorable song is a product of the times and events he witnessed in public and in private in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The country was embroiled in anti-Israel protests. US involvement in Vietnam, demonstrations that often turned violent. âWhat’s Going Onâ was written in search of the reasons for the chaos that seemed to have gripped the country.
Father, father, We don’t need to climb, You see, war is not the answer, For only love can overcome hate.
